We mentioned the new MDC USA XT22HRT Off-Grid Extreme in our Friday news posts a couple of weeks back, but considering everything this rig had to offer, we thought it warranted a closer look. After all, the travel trailer feels custom-built for overlanding and boondocking, while still packing a surprising amount of features and amenities into its 22′ frame. Here’s what you should know:

Off-Road and Off-Grid Chops

MDC USA calls the XT22HRT its “most extreme trailer yet,” and looking at the specs, it’s easy to understand why. The trailer rides on a chassis built from galvanized steel with a tandem X-track independent coil spring suspension and two Tough Trax HD shock absorbers on both sides. The twin-axle towable also comes with aluminum alloy wheels equipped with Goodride MT off-road tires, a Cruisemaster hitch, a 12″ electromagnetic braking system, and electronic stability control rated for use off-road. All of these components combine to keep the rig safe and secure when wandering off tarmac.

Once you reach that remote campsite, the XT22HRT can keep you safe and comfortable thanks to its impressive power system made with reliable Renogy components. The trailer ships with a 1500Ah battery pack connected to a 1400W roof-mounted solar panel system. A dedicated solar charge monitor, a 3000W inverter, and a built-in energy monitoring system provide additional functionality and control. All of this should allow owners to run the trailer’s HVAC system, appliances, lighting, and other gadgets without an external power source for days at a time.

Speaking of the HVAC, the XT22HRT is well equipped in that area too. It comes with two Truma Aventa Eco A/C units that produce 13,500 BTUs each, along with dual Truma VarioHeat propane furnaces (11,500 BTUs each) and a Truma AquaGo Comfort Plus instant hot water heater. Those devices should help keep owners comfortable in a wide range of temperatures, but heated holding tanks, self-heating batteries, insulated water lines, and dual-pane windows turn this model into a true four-season RV.

A Sleek, Modern Interior

There is no question that the HT22HRT is rugged on the outside; the interior is designed to be plush and comfortable. The floor plan includes two internal doors that create a sense of individual—and private—space, which is always appreciated in a smaller RV. The rear is dominated by a large U-shaped dinette with a removable table, all of which sits adjacent to the kitchen. The galley is decked out with a three-burner stove, an oven, a microwave, and a 12V refrigerator. A stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet completes the look.

Midship you’ll find a bathroom with way more room than you would expect in a trailer of this size. It includes a cassette toilet, sink, and shower, with enough open space to allow for privacy without feeling cramped. At the front of the floor plan you’ll find the bedroom, which features an RV queen-size bed, two wardrobes, and an open, airy design.

MDC USA has included some nice exterior features that extend the living space outdoors, too. Those include a slide-out kitchen with a stove and sink, a built-in serving table, and a mini fridge. You’ll also find an outdoor entertainment center with a 43″ smart TV and an integrated sound system with 6″ speakers, along with a smartphone charging dock and RCA/HDMI ports for adding additional accessories. A powered awning provides shade and protection from the elements, with the option for a full annex that adds an enclosed roof, side walls, and a floor.

More to Love

As if all of that wasn’t enough to pique your interest, the HT22HRT comes with plenty of other nice features that add yet more functionality. For instance, it comes with 24″ smart TVs installed in the kitchen/living room and bedroom. It features three built-in fans, 12V LED lighting with wireless switching inside and out, and a skylight over the bed. The windows are also equipped with double cassette blinds and fly screens, making it easy to get privacy and also dial in your preferred ventilation and airflow. The RV even has an outdoor shower with a wall-mounted shower tent that will definitely come in handy after a long day of playing outdoors.

The MDC USA HT22HRT Off-Grid Extreme travel trailer looks like a very well-thought-out towable, with tons of great features mixed with serious off-road capabilities and four-season comfort. The camper comfortably sleeps two, with room for a guest in a pinch. It has a GVWR of 9920 lbs and a cargo-carrying capacity of 1985 lbs.
